    Woke Up This Morning

Woke up this morning, had breakfast
Lunch at noon, supper at four
Watched TV 'til eight thirty, went to bed at nine
Woke up the next morning
At the same early time.

He kissed and girl and fell in love
She cried all night with a brand new broken heart
She's giving birth to her next of kin
He wondered if he'd ever smile again
She prays at night to be someone else

Oh no, not again.

He's throwing stones in the Holy Land
She digs for oil in the burning sand
He runs the border to die in the sun.
She leaves the farm to make someone nice shoes
He puts it on the shelf and sells you the blues

Oh no, not again.

He works his job and drinks a beer
She does the laundry and dreams of the lottery
He builds a fence to keep away the news
She looks into eyes to find something she can use
We watch the sun come up in the middle of pouring rain
And we say…

Oh, no. Not again.
